WHAT GARMENT ARE YOU FIELD TESTING?
The ecologyst x Stanfield's Henley.
WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST IMPRESSION OF THE GARMENT?
I was so excited to try it out! I have a classic Stanfield Henley and although it is very functional, it is a little bit big and 'rugged'. I was hoping a collaboration would allow for a more 'fashionable' fit, and it did!
DESCRIBE A TIME WHEN YOU WORE THIS GARMENT OUTSIDE.
HOW DID IT PERFORM?
I wore this garment in the city, working in my little 'urban garden' on a spring day and it kept me the perfect temperature. I also wore it in the country when I went to my hometown for long weekend hikes and it was the perfect layer under a jacket in a colder climate.
HOW DOES THIS PRODUCT MAKE YOU FEEL?
It feels great! Anything Stanfield reminds me of being on the West Coast, as does the ecologyst brand. Montréal is far from the Pacific West Coast but this sweater is like a little souvenir that I can pull out whenever I'm feeling nostalgic for wool and rubber boots.
HOW OFTEN HAVE YOU WORN IT?
I've worn it around 5-8 times.
WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE FABRIC?
I have extremely sensitive skin so a wool base layer always makes me a little nervous, but I was surprisingly comfortable in this Henley.
DID YOU FOLLOW THE WASHING/DRYING INSTRUCTIONS WHEN CLEANING THE GARMENT? IF NOT, HOW DID YOU CLEAN IT?
I have not washed it yet, although my Mom seems to have a trick to washing her Stanfield gear that makes it come out soft and cozy. It would be great if there were detailed care instructions included that clued us into the ways of making this garment softer with time.
DID THE GARMENT CHANGE AFTER USE?
It did stretch out, especially at the bottom, width wise, where I am prone to tugging on it. It was nice to see it didn't stretch as much as my classic Stanfield, which seems to grow a couple of sizes with wear.
DID THE GARMENT MEET YOUR NEEDS?
It did! Although my life in the city usually requires me to dress up for meetings and events, this sweater suits my weekend lifestyle of bushwacking and mucking around.
HOW WOULD YOU IMPROVE THIS PRODUCT?
The only way I think this could be improved, fit wise, is in the length. It isn't extremely short, which is great, although even in a size large it didn't quite cover my bum, which is something I like in an outerwear piece.
TELL US A STORY ABOUT YOU IN THIS GARMENT.
Wearing my ecologyst x Stanfield's Henley to clean up my garden once the snow melted, the need for a sandwich and a beer naturally hit and I went to meet my partner around the corner, where he was doing the same. Low and behold he is out there working in his classic Stanfield. Walking to the store in our grey wool, jeans and work boots we were definitely a contrast to all of the slick farmers market goers and I couldn't help but laugh at how, if we were on the West Coast, we would fit right in. Maybe it's time to move back?
HOW DO YOU LIKE TO SPEND YOUR WEEKEND?
Finding greenery and nature within my city when I can't manage to get completely out of there. Sitting with friends, taking in the iconic Montréal views and sunsets on our balconies. Visiting with the alley cats that find their way into my garden.
WHAT'S ONE WAY THAT YOU LEAVE THINGS BETTER?
Reminding my community that if they see environmental abuse, it is their inherent right to defend, and working with the Indigenous People's Power Project (iP3) as a kayak instructor at our non-violent direct action trainings.
