WHAT GARMENT ARE YOU FIELD TESTING?
The Cabin Shirt.
WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST IMPRESSION OF THE GARMENT?
Soft and skookum are the two words I would use to describe this flannel. It was neither too tight nor was it too baggy, just right in that happy place. I felt like this garment would stand the everyday wear of the dirtbag lifestyle.
DESCRIBE A TIME WHEN YOU WORE THIS GARMENT OUTSIDE.
HOW DID IT PERFORM?
I wore this garment outdoors many times. I just recently got back from Mexico where I was on a photography/cinematography assignment, which was mostly spent on a boat. After I would finish filming sea life, I would hop out of the water and throw the flannel on to keep the breeze from giving me a chill. I was also wearing this flannel when a Blue Whale breached in front of the boat, does that make it my lucky shirt? Absolutely!
HOW DOES THIS PRODUCT MAKE YOU FEEL?
It makes me feel like I'm going off on another crazy adventure. It's a shirt that I will take with me every time I venture off into the forests and mountains. It makes me feel like I want to hang out by a darn campfire!
HOW OFTEN HAVE YOU WORN IT?
Often.
WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE FABRIC?
The fabric is exceptional. You can definitely tell that it's prime organic cotton. The one thing that I would change from an outdoorsman standpoint, would be to make it out of something that retains heat when wet, such as a wool blend of sorts. Overall it's a strong shirt to throw on after a hard days climb, hike, or surf.
DID YOU FOLLOW THE WASHING/DRYING INSTRUCTIONS WHEN CLEANING THE GARMENT? IF NOT, HOW DID YOU CLEAN IT?
To be honest... I haven't washed it yet... It ages better that way, right?
DID THE GARMENT CHANGE AFTER USE?
It has broken in a little, but I would say the structural integrity hasn't diminished whatsoever.
DID THE GARMENT MEET YOUR NEEDS?
I would say that it faired well concerning that my lifestyle is pretty active. It has survived through thick and thin and made me look half decent while doing it.
HOW WOULD YOU IMPROVE THIS PRODUCT?
I have had flannels in the past, that had a button halfway up the sleeve so that when you rolled it up, a little tab would come out and you could button the tab to the sleeve. This would prevent the rolled sleeve from unrolling during hectic activities. Besides that, I can't really think of too much else! Perhaps a little Sitka tree embroidered on one of the pocket flaps?
TELL US A STORY ABOUT YOU IN THIS GARMENT.
I've only had this flannel for about a month now and it has already accompanied me on so many adventures. It was the shirt on my back in Mexico where the warm salt water in The Sea of Cortez welcomed it from our little PNW corner of the world. The flannel had kept me regulated on those breezy nights in Mexico, and kept me equally content as a camp shirt back here in the Vancouver Island mountain scene. I dare to even say it, but it might be my new send shirt for rock climbing. Is it strong enough to withstand the granite and limestone lifestyle? We'll see, it's a field test after all.
HOW DO YOU LIKE TO SPEND YOUR WEEKEND?
I like to start it with a map. I lay it out on my table and scan for three things: water, mountains, and unique topography. I then do a little research on the area and create a tentative plan that still has wiggle room for some spontaneity. I then gather a few friends and drive off in my 1992 Mitsubishi Pajero named Ranger Ringo. Hand on wheel and hat forward I head to the Duncan Garage for some pre-adventure eats. After that, it's game on. Uninterrupted road all the way up to the jagged peaks of Strathcona. I usually take the time to enjoy a one night stay within the mountains, as sunset and sunrise are the times where the landscape is the most beautiful to me. When the sun crests the horizon and breaks the shade of night I break out my stove and coffee grain and brew myself up a nice warm cup of Joe, all the while taking in the view and enjoying the simple life. This is my ideal weekend.

Wherever I go I practice Leave No Trace. Whether that be in nature or in the city, pack in and pack out, that's the motto we should all advocate.
